Help with Local Bins
Most answers are in the app. If something's still not right, email us. Your council looks after the bins themselves.
Not getting a reminder?
- Check your schedule. Open Today and make sure the next collection looks right. If it doesn't, edit your schedule.
- Check reminders in the app. Go to You › Reminders. Turn on the evening reminder and choose a time.
- Allow notifications. In iPhone Settings › Notifications › Local Bins, turn on Allow Notifications.
- Check Focus and Scheduled Summary. These can hold reminders back. Allow Local Bins in the Focus you use, and choose Immediate Delivery.
- Open the app after an update. Reminders are planned a few weeks ahead. Opening the app tops them up.
Apple explains these settings in its guide to changing notification settings on iPhone.
Don't delete the app to fix this. That deletes your schedule too.
Dates look wrong?
Go to You › Places, choose the place, then Edit schedule. You can change the bin night, how often each bin goes, or swap which week is which. To skip or move one collection, tap that date in Calendar.
If the app filled in your answers from council data and you change them, it may ask whether to tell us. That's optional.
Public holidays
The app knows when public holidays fall. The week before, it asks whether your collection moves, and moves your reminder to match. It never guesses what your council will do.
Testing an earlier version?
If you tested Local Bins before this update, the app starts fresh. The first time it opens, it clears the schedule and reminders the earlier version saved, so no old reminder goes off. Then set up your place again. Anything you bought is kept.
Contact us
Email hello@localbins.app.
Tell us your iPhone model, iOS version, the app version (You › About) and what you expected to happen. Please don't send your street address.
Bins missed, damaged or missing?
We can't help with the bin service itself. Contact your council. These official pages help you find it:
