Terms
Terms of use
The rules for using Local Bins and this website, in plain English.
These terms are a draft and not yet in force.
Last updated: 7 November 2026
Who we are
Local Bins is run by Rodney Telford, a sole trader ("we" or "us"). These terms cover the Local Bins iPhone app, its widgets and Apple Watch app, and this website.
Your licence to use the app
You get Local Bins from the App Store, so Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to it (Apple's standard licence agreement). These terms sit beside it. Where they differ about your licence to use the app, Apple's agreement applies.
What Local Bins does, and doesn't do
Local Bins reminds you when to put your bins out, from the schedule you set up. It is not a government or council app. Your council runs the bin service and is the authority on collection dates: if they differ from the app, follow your council.
Reminders depend on your iPhone's settings, such as notifications, Focus and Scheduled Summary, so a reminder can arrive late or not at all.
Local Bins Plus
Plus is optional. Apple bills it to your Apple Account at the price the App Store shows before you buy.
Monthly and yearly start with a 14-day free trial, once per Apple Account, and renew automatically until you cancel in your iPhone's Settings; cancel at least a day before the trial or a period ends to avoid the next charge. Lifetime is one payment and doesn't renew.
Apple handles refunds under its own policies. If a subscription price goes up, Apple tells you first. People you invite to your household get Plus while your plan is active.
Household and sharing
Household shares one place's schedule, the rota and who put the bins out with the people you invite, through iCloud. Only invite people you know; everyone in the household sees what's shared. You can leave or stop sharing at any time.
If you choose to share your collection pattern anonymously, you let us offer it to neighbours setting up nearby, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Sponsor cards and ads
The free app shows labelled cards from local businesses and Google banner ads. They come from third parties. We review every sponsor card before it runs, but we don't endorse what's advertised, and any dealings with an advertiser are between you and them. Read the ad policy.
This website and enquiries
When you send a sponsor or council enquiry, you agree we can contact you about it. Prices for sponsors and councils are quoted directly and aren't an offer until we agree them in writing.
Using Local Bins fairly
Don't try to break, overload or get around the app's services or this website's spam check, copy or resell our data, or send false reports or patterns. We can stop a service for anyone who does.
Your rights under Australian law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, and nothing in these terms limits them. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect loss, such as a missed collection or a fine, if a reminder is late or a date in the app is wrong.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the app or the law changes. We'll change the date at the top of this page.
Which law applies
The law of Victoria, Australia, governs these terms. The courts of Victoria can hear disputes about them, as can any other court with authority under Australian law.
